PETER WONG – ZYNC (TORONTO):
[04:22:10 PM] Christine: so from what renny told me, you design ads for agencies? what kind of ads? print? [04:22:37 PM] pcw111181@gmail.com: yeah…i used to work at a mid sized ad agency…n now i work at a boutique design studio [04:22:42 PM] pcw111181@gmail.com: yep…mostly print ads, but not much of the work i do now are ads [04:23:00 PM] Christine: what was your former agency called? [04:23:05 PM] pcw111181@gmail.com: i do mostly corporate communication or websites [04:23:13 PM] pcw111181@gmail.com: top drawer creative [04:23:22 PM] Christine: what is corp commun? like PR? [04:23:43 PM] pcw111181@gmail.com: umm…well just marketing brochures, branding stuff, etc
DESIGN BOUTIQUE VS LARGE AGENCY:
[04:23:57 PM] Christine: do you prefer working at a boutique now? [04:24:56 PM] pcw111181@gmail.com: well i actually like both…there are pros and cons of each i guess. at a design studio, we care more about the fine details. but actually same with ad agency too [04:25:48 PM] Christine: is it b/c you have more time to care about the fine details or b/c you are around more artists like yourself? [04:25:52 PM] pcw111181@gmail.com: hmm…come to think of it, the whole creative process is pretty much the same. well at ad agencies, most clients are for retail [04:26:31 PM] Christine: what makes the boutique you are at special then? different from the rest? [04:27:04 PM] pcw111181@gmail.com: at large ad agencies, usually u work on one account [04:27:13 PM] Christine: at boutiques, who are the clients? [04:27:14 PM] pcw111181@gmail.com: whereas a smaller studio, u have more variety [04:27:18 PM] Christine: cool [04:27:42 PM] pcw111181@gmail.com: there are still big names but also sometimes u hav a chance to do branding for smaller companies so u hav more creative freedom [04:27:56 PM] pcw111181@gmail.com: some of our clients now are loblaw, sun life, scotiabank. but those big companies hav a lot of restrictions. they hav already developed corporate guidelines that u gotta work from. so sometimes, u can't be "out of the box" [04:28:54 PM] Christine: I can see that [04:29:07 PM] pcw111181@gmail.com: like large companies will be hesitant to take risks and also the internal approval process there are very frustrating cuz u can present an awesome idea and then they would water it down so much. n the final result would suck. n there are lots of politics

| B-day Freebies |
[04 Feb 2009|07:15pm] |
FYI: On or around your birth date, some stores offer discounts, bonus points or free goodies.

At Aerie for example, I was allowed to pick out any "Soft Gloss" the month of my b-day with their membership card. The SAs working that night were friendly and sweet; the one who wrapped up my gloss went crazy on the sparkly wrapping paper and her enthusiasm was much appreciated after a long day at work. There were about 6 shades available and they are all very sheer and smell strongly of vanilla. I choose "Blush" as my freebie and got 20% discount off of "Shell". Sadly, their bras suck and are geared toward teens but they do have some nice cardigans, creams and everyday panties I might buy on future visits. And since it was January, I also got their monthly gift which is a small notebook. Cute.

I miss my tree.
When I was out in my garden checking for any ripe strawberries I realized that a little over a year ago, a tree that I had since grade 5 died. My class was given a pine/spruce sapling to plant as part of an environmental program. It followed me to three houses but I guess its end was due to the poor rainfall the seasons before. When I was a kid, during my summer break I would be playing in my sun-filled back porch. My tree sat in the corner of the deck near the stairs and I couldn't help but touch the soft rubbery tips that appeared each spring. Sometimes I'd pull off the brown nutty skins that sheathed the bright green needles. But I'd only take off what was already starting to dry up and fall off.. just helping it along so it wouldn't have to work as hard.

Autobiography in Five Short Chapters
1. I walk down the street. There is a deep hole in the sidewalk. I fall in. I am lost.... I am hopeless. It isn't my fault. It takes forever to find a way out
2. I walk down the same street. There is a deep hole in the sidewalk I pretend I don't see it. I fall in again. I can't believe I am in the same place but, it isn't my fault. It still takes a long time to get out.
3. I walk down the same street. There is a deep hole in the sidewalk. I see it is there. I still fall in.... it's a habit. my eyes are open I know where I am. It is my fault. I get out immediately.
4. I walk down the same street. There is a deep hole in the sidewalk. I walk around it.
5. I walk down another street.
